Day 83 – Flowers in the Future

Though there is snow still on the ground, today was very much a spring day.  In chatting with a friend, I decided to dig through my archives. If there is anything that says “Spring” it’s Cherry Blossoms.  I just thought I would share a little bit of color and a reminder that Spring is here and we have a lot of loveliness to look forward to.

Although I am not certain, someone told me they thought this was an Ornamental Cherry of some sort:

and this was back when my creativity flowed a little more freely:

May this find you looking forward to Flowers in the Future!  Happy Spring!

Day 82 – “Sprinter” (spring/winter) Weather

Wow! I can’t believe that I waited so long. I don’t know what’s come over me, but I just haven’t felt like getting out and taking new pictures. And I’m not even sick anymore. (thank goodness). It’s kind of hard when I’m a stay-at-home wife, mom and grandma and there’s not a lot of new photo opportunities each day. The weather decided to help me out this time.

This one was yesterday. I didn’t really venture out, I took this one through the window.

I wasn’t entirely happy with the exposure. This is after playing in Topaz Adjust 5 for a while.

By the time I got outside, things were warming up and melting. I couldn’t believe I actually caught a drip!

This has to be my favorite from yesterday…

cropped in close, it was also the most colorful.

This morning I woke to over 5 inches of snow. The sun was coming out and the sky was blue so I had to get out and take pictures quickly. It was gorgeous all day. But of course a sunrise is the best start to a new day

More fun with Topaz Adjust:

If you’re lucky, there’s always the beauty of an untouched path. You can’t tell from the picture, but this one is fenced off. The snow was up past my high-tops walking in to get it from the gate.

My granddaughter’s trampoline looked like a perfectly fluted pie crust.

I love the contrast in textures found here:

Cotton ball? I don’t think so. Better not hold it too tightly!

All this beauty reminded me of the devotion I read in the Daily Bread a few days ago:

The psalmists had an advantage in praise because of their closer tie to the natural world. David began life outdoors as a shepherd, then spent years hiding in the rocky terrain of Israel. Not surprisingly, a great love, even reverence, for the natural world shines through many of his poems. The psalms present a world that fits together as a whole, with everything upheld by a personal God watching over it.
Wilderness announces to our senses the splendor of an invisible, untamable God. How can we not offer praise to the One who dreamed up porcupines and elk, who splashed bright-green aspen trees across hillsides of gray rock, who transforms the same landscape into a work of art with every blizzard?   -Philip Yancey

It’s sad, if you think about it. In today’s society, we get so caught up in things, and projects, TV, computers (guilty) and we don’t take time to enjoy the things of God. The beauty of a snowfall covering the landscape in a blanket of white. And with a bright blue sky in contrast?  It was a gorgeous, gorgeous Sprinter day!

I hope to not be so busy with everything else that I forget the beauty and splendor of God and to praise Him for it.  I pray the same for you. I also hope to be more consistent in posting. This is, after all, supposed to be a Daily Blog.

Day 73 – Seasonal Contrast

I love Spring! Every once in awhile, though, a day comes along to show the contrast of the seasons. Spring is happening while it is still winter. (according to the calendar). Today was such a day. There is snow on the ground and daffodils are in bloom.

oooh – grape hyacinths as well…

Not the best shot because they were too close to the ground. The ground was wet and cold, and besides that I’m just too old to get down there (lol). I just held my camera in front of them and hoped for the best. The contrast is still there, and that’s the purpose of today’s post, right?

This one was taken in April, 4 years ago.

Whereever you are today – I hope and pray that you have a colorful (and warm) day. Enjoy God’s nature.

Day 64 ~ Blah Blah Blues

Now, I’m not one to go around being depressed, but today was very different for me. (Don’t worry, it didnt’ last long). This afternoon I found myself in a state of mind where I didn’t want to do any of my favorite things like playing scrabble online, messing with my pictures,  or reading. TV was boring. I couldn’t sleep, etc.  I didn’t want to do housework, (which is not unusual, I must confess), I was totally not myself. I think it may be in part because I am so sick of being sick. I have complained to God about this, believe me. I just want to be healthy again. But then I realized that there are so many people out there that are less fortunate than I.  Why am I complaining?

This gentleman was at a Saturday Market I attended last fall. I think I picked this image today because he is dressed in blue. I wonder if he knows the song from TV’s HEE HAW days.

Gloom, despair and agony on me
Deep, dark depression, excessive agony,
If it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have not luck at all
Gloom, despair and agony on me!

I’m sure some of you out there have had people (or maybe done it yourself) rub their thumb and forefinger together and ask “Do you know what this is?” — “It’s the world’s smallest guitar, playing “I pity me!”

As far as the “blah blah” in my title, I’m feeling that is how I should consider my complaints at this point. God has blessed me with so much in so many ways, that my complaints are just a lot of needless prattle. Yes, I can bring them to Him, but unless I come in a spirit of wanting to accept my lot, I’m not really looking to change my attitude about it. I do need to remember  to be thankful and content no matter what situation I might find myself in.

Please don’t take this as a reason to feel sorry for me. I remember my parents telling me that there are some people who don’t need you to feel sorry for them, they have more than enough pity for themselves. I also want you to know that I have not fallen into that trap. I am just writing today about an experience that bothered me to an extent that I really do NOT want to ever repeat it.

So, instead of continuing to “Sing the Blues” , I am choosing to move forward and be thankful for all that I have.

Thank You for putting up with me.

Here’s a better tune:

It’s a Happy Day, and I thank God for the weather,
It’s a happy day, and I’m living it for my Lord,
It’s a Happy Day and things are gonna get better,
living each day by the Promises in God’s Word.

Now, those are the kind of words I want to live by. Won’t you join me on this journey to a destination that can only be described as “Out of this World”

Day 63 ~ Random Shots and Random Thots

Hi! I missed 4 days. I really didn’t want to do that but I just didn’t have any new pictures and I didn’t know what to say. These pictures are not new, either, but I thought they would be fun to share. You will never find a more random place to visit than our Hometown Furniture Store. Believe it or not, these things were all inside the store. We went in to find a recliner (found, yay), but I was just thankful I had my camera with me. The place is amazing.

Vintage vehicle #1 (above) #2 (below)

There’s even a double-decker bus.

This place is huge! And in spite of all the extras, there is plenty of furniture to be purchased.

Some things were hung from the ceiling:

Ned wanted to take it home with us.

and…

Would you believe buildings within buildings?

…and so much more, but I’m not going to post them all here. I will however share a couple edited versions:

Now for a few random thoughts… The above are all amazing man-made things, and while I find them fascinating, the nature of God is so much more so. Have you ever looked at the detail in leaves? or the tiniest flowers? How can a person see such intricacies and not believe there is a God? The One, True God, to be exact.

What gets to me more than that is how people who don’t believe in Him probably speak His name more than anyone else. I heard someone (in anger) the other day say “for Christ’s sake!” I wanted to ask her: “Really? are you sure?” She doesn’t do anything for His sake. She doesn’t want to have anything to do with Him. Somehow I don’t think she knew what she was saying, she dropped the f-bomb right next to it.  People aren’t careful what they say. Some people don’t care, and some people speak that way for shock value.  . I could have made that comment, but I know it wouldn’t have been taken very well.

We all need to be careful of what we say and how it comes across. Let’s make sure when we use the Name of Jesus, it is in Praise and Worship!

Day 58 ~ Sing Anyway!

Another archive photo and a post inspired by another quote from my current book:

Have you ever noticed how birds sing no matter what their circumstances? If it’s windy, they hang on and sing. If it’s hot, they chirp more merrily. If it rains, they ignore it and sing anyway. I think God created them as a lesson for us.

Paul tells us in Philippians 4, vs 11b “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.”  Sing anyway?

Have a great night and remember to Sing Anyway!

Day 57 – Blessings

If you have been following my “ramblings” <grin>, you will know that I love to read. Most of the books I read are Harlequin’s Love Inspired books, with a running thread of people who are struggling with their faith because of loss or disillusions. These books, of course, are fiction, but it is good to see the return of faith. In real life we know that it doesn’t always happen that way, but it can.

However, my topic today is “blessings“. I had no idea what or if I would be writing tonight until I came across a quote in the current book I am reading.

I don’t know what any of us deserves, but God, in His mercy, blesses us anyway.

These “blessings can be found just about anywhere, especially if you are looking. These next two photos were taken several years ago, but they were both blessings to me at the time and I still enjoy them.

It was early one fall evening, the sun was setting behind the huge oak tree. I just had to see how well I could capture it. (I was also just starting out on my photography venture).

The sunset turned out to be slightly less than I  hoped it would be.  However, when I brought the photo up on my computer I discovered that while I was focusing on the sunset, I had missed out on the beautiful reflection in front of the oak.  As in this situation, many times in life we are focused one place and miss out on the blessings that are right in front of us. In this case, I can see God as the Mighty Oak, and myself as the puddle. Of course, the reflection is not always as clear as the one you see here, but that is something I need to work on every day of my life. So you see, this picture is a blessing of greater worth than just the first glance.

Now, in this next photo, it was a blustery, cold winter day. the snow was coming down and it was white all around. But there is a bright little blessing right in the middle of the shot.

I think that’s one thing I like about photography. I can (sometimes) capture those blessings and live them over and over. Both of these pictures have at one time been my favorites. I’m glad that a little quote in a romance novel (of all things) recalled them to my mind once again. I don’t think I have seen a robin in the middle of winter since. I thought, at one time, about making this into a Christmas card, but I never did it. Maybe next year.

So, you see, you never know where you are going to find a blessing, you never know when, and you never know how it is going to come. Sometimes, you don’t even know why. Maybe it is so you can share it with others? Thank you for letting me share with you!

Blessings, (count ‘em) [wasn't that in the stress reducer list?]

Wait! I can’t go yet – something else came to mind: (I took the liberty to change the chorus after verses 2,3 and 4 – we sang it this way when I was growing up)

Count Your Blessings (hymn)

When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God hath done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly,
And you will keep singing as the days go by.

Count your blessings, name them two by two,
Count your blessings, see what God can do!
Count your blessings, name them two by two,
Count your many blessings, see what God can do!

When you look at others with their lands and gold,
Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;
Count your many blessings. Wealth can never buy
Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.

Count your blessings, name them four by four,
Count your blessings, there are millions more!
Count your blessings, name them four by four.
Count your many blessings, there are millions more!

So, amid the conflict whether great or small,
Do not be disheartened, God is over all;
Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.

Count your blessings, name them eight by eight
Count your blessings, they are all so great!
Count your blessings, name them eight by eight,
Count your many blessings, they are all so great!

One, two, four, eight – they just keep multiplying. And if you start looking for them and counting them, God’s blessings will do the same for you.

May God bless each one of you.
